While researching tunes for our Riddim Box Radio show, I stumbled upon this early Warp Records classic: Tricky Disco. A funny piece of music that doesn’t get enough recognition.
Concocted by the British collective Greater Than One which released many rave and techno hits in the early 90s, Tricky Disco is a bleepy and clonky stomper with funny samples and a wobbly bassline. It’s all so silly and it all works so stunningly well together.
Of course, the record came in the iconic purple Warp Records sleeve. And the track had one of these typical early rave videos that always seemed like they were thrown together while tripping on acid. Good enough for the niche dance music shows on MTV and VIVA.
If you like such sounds, feel free to tune in to our monthly Riddim Box Radio show!
