Those Green Bridges

The collaborative sneaker of Kangaroos and Sneakerness Cologne is finally here – and the “Green Bridges” really has turned out to be something special. Not least for myself.

You never know what can become of some idea you shout across the room. A shoe, for instance. While brainstorming on concepts for eventual collaborations years ago in the headquarters of some sneaker magazine, I let on about the Cologne bridges over the rhine with their special green tone and the history behind it all maybe being a good theme.

Now my dear friend and colleague Max has made this seed sprout. For the Sneakerness he has worked with Kangaroos on the “Green Bridges”, which plays with the topic in great detail. Glitzy 3M on a fat tongue, dark blue suede over a clean sole and perforated, soft leather in that fresh Adenauer green make this exclusive shoe really something to behold.

Crafted entirely in the German shoemaker town of Muenchweiler, the sneaker is based on the Kangaroos model “Ultimate” and comes with lace and hang tags, a shoe bag and four pairs of laces in a sturdy special box. Obviously this is a limited affair – just 150 pairs that will be sold at and around the upcoming Sneakerness Cologne convention weekend.

By the way, I don’t want any shoulder taps for my initial flash of inspiration – save the props for Max, who fought for the project and worked on it for a long time. I’m just happy that there exists a shoe now that I kind of wished for at some point. And that’s why I’ll leave the stage to tha mandem now and let him tell the story of the “Green Bridges”.
